Take a peek . . . . . . . . . . . Book 2
Come! Let’s go to Children’s Church and see more exciting things happening.
In Book 2 the children will discover a flashlight that never needs batteries and is not available at the local Wal-Mart.  As the children whip up a batch of cookies, they learn the true meaning of patience as they wait for the cookies to come hot out of the oven.  A picnic is on the agenda as the children share goldfish crackers and small pieces of bread while listening to Sandi Patti singing The Miracles of Jesus.  As we get out our rain gear, we learn about God’s armor and how important it is to be ready when it rains.  When we slide our arrow prayers into our tom-toms we add a special prayer of thanks to God that Christmas is never over!
Here is an example of a Lesson from Book 2.

TAKE A PEEK
"LET'S GO TO CHILDREN'S CHURCH"
by Kathie Van Landingham

Item:  A match  (A long wooden match used at the fireplace would be best.)

Scripture:  Proverbs 15:1  (LB)  A soft answer turns away wrath, but harsh words cause quarrels.

What do I have in my hand?  (Hold up match.).  Should children play with matches?  What are some good things we can do with a match?  (Let the children respond.)  Sometimes people are not careful with matches and things happen that are not good.  For example, if a match is carelessly thrown on the ground someones house could burn down or someone could get hurt from the fire.  All it takes is a tiny spark.

There is a part of our bodies that is like this match.  Who would like to guess what it is?  (Let the children respond.)  It is our tongues.  We can use our tongues for good by speaking kind words to others, encouraging, happy, cheerful, sunshine words, or we can use rainy day words, words that criticize and hurt other people.  With just one word, we can make a person feel happy or sad.  Our tongues are just like this match.  They can do a lot of good or they can do a lot of harm.  What kind of words do you think Jesus wants us to use - sunshine words that lift up or rainy day words that tear down?  (Let the children respond.)  Lets pray.

(Have the children repeat the prayer after you.)
Prayer: Dear Father, may the words we speak be kind and gentle like You.  In the precious name of Jesus, we pray.  Amen.

tongue -- white construction paper, cut 1 of each
collar -- dark blue construction paper, cut 1

Punch holes in only one clown head as shown.  Cut yarn and thread through holes by folding yarn in half and inserting fold through hole.  Place two loose ends of yarn through loop and pull to secure.  Put two strands of yarn in each hole.  Glue collar to back of clown head.  Staple front and back heads together in center of holes.  Glue eyes and noses to both sides.  Glue mouths as shown.  Glue tongues - kind words on happy mouth and unkind words on sad mouth.  Glue clown hats together at top.  Place hat on top of head and glue in center of hair.  Glue cotton ball to top of hat.  Put glue on top part of craft stick and place in-between the two faces.  Put a couple of staples in clowns chin to hold stick securely.

Circle time:  With puppet in hand, ask the children which clown face makes them feel happy.  What kind of words do you like people to say to you?  (Turn puppet to one side and then the other and let the children respond.)  Let us pray.

(Have the children repeat the prayer after you.)
Prayer:  Father, forgive us when we say unkind words.  Help us to be kind and loving like Jesus.  Amen.

Note:
If you have a clown outfit or know someone who does, it would be fun for a clown to do circle time with the children.
